NCLR - Alliance Close-out Report - September 20, 2018
OSHA and UnidosUS
Alliance Closeout Report
On May 20, 2011 OSHA and the UnidosUS (formerly National Council of La Raza) formed an Alliance to provide UnidosUS affiliates and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources to help them 1) protect the health and safety of workers by reducing and preventing exposure to hazards in construction, healthcare, service, and "green" industries, and addressing issues associated with low-wage, limited basic education, and other vulnerable worker populations, and 2) understand the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act).
The Alliance agreement was renewed for a period of five years on September 20, 2013 and ended on September 20, 2018. During this timeframe, OSHA and UnidosUS worked together to achieve a variety of successes. For example:
- UnidosUS supported OSHA initiatives such as the National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction and the Heat Illness Prevention Campaign.
- UnidosUS often shared OSHA safety and health information and resources via social media.
- OSHA representatives and UnidosUS representatives attended and exchanged information at several conferences and meetings.
- UnidosUS and OSHA connected OSHA Area and Regional Offices with UnidosUS Affiliates in those areas to work on projects of mutual interest and develop relationships.
