Outreach and Communication Goals
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise in developing materials and programs to promote professionalism and the awareness, value and benefits of achieving safety and health certifications and assist with the dissemination of such information to employers and employees through print and electronic media, electronic assistance tools, OSHA's, BCSP's, CCHEST's and ABIH's Web sites and other appropriate media.
Certified Safety Professional and the Value of Certification Fact Sheet
Through the Alliance, BCSP revised the Certified Safety Professional and the Value of Certification Fact Sheet that was developed through first OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST Alliance. The fact sheet discusses the value of professional certification, including the benefits to employers, salaries, professionalism, and accreditation. The fact sheet is posted on the BCSP Web site and OSHA links to from the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance Web page on the Agency Web site and is distributed by OSHA, BCSP and CCHEST representatives during presentations at conferences and events, including the American Society of Safety Engineers Professional Development Conference in June 2008.
Career Paths in Safety
Through the Alliance, BCSP and CCHEST revised a brochure, "Career Paths in Safety," developed during the first OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST Alliance, that includes information on education, experience needed and the types of professional certification. OSHA, BCSP and CCHEST representatives are distributing the brochure during presentations at safety and health-related events, including the National Safety Congress and Expo, Construction Safety Conference, and Associated General Contractors Conference. The brochure is posted on the BCSP Web site and OSHA links to it from the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance Web page on the Agency Web site.
OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance Web page
OSHA developed an OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance Web page that is posted on the Agency's Web site and includes the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance agreement, the OSHA news release on the Alliance's signing, and activities and events. This Web page is updated on a regular basis.
BCSP and OSHA Alliance-related Web page
BCSP developed a BCSP and OSHA Alliance-related Web page on the BCSP Web site. The page has information on the OSHA and BCSP Alliance, including the Alliance agreement, news releases, and activities and events. In addition, the page includes links to the Alliance developed products, including the BCSP Fact Sheet, "The CSP and the Value of Certification," and "Career Paths in Safety," brochure.
CCHEST and OSHA Alliance-related Web page
CCHEST developed a CCHEST and OSHA Alliance-related Web page on the CCHEST Web site. The page has information on the OSHA and CCHEST Alliance, including the Alliance agreement, news releases, and activities and events.
ABIH and OSHA Alliance-related Web page
ABIH developed an ABIH and OSHA Alliance-related Web page on the ABIH Web site. The page has information on the OSHA and ABIH Alliance, including the Alliance agreement, news releases, and activities and events. The page also includes information about and a link to the 2009 North American Occupational Safety and Health Week, May 3-9, 2009.
Publications and Newsletters
Information and news releases on the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance signing and the activities of the Alliance have appeared in print and electronic publications such as BNA Occupational Safety and Health Reporter, Industry News, and Compliance Home. For more information on the articles, see the "Alliance Program Reach."
- Speak, exhibit or appear at conferences, local meetings or other events to disseminate and promote OSHA, BCSP, CCHEST and ABIH developed information on safety and health certification and professionalism.

American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Chapter Meetings
Roger Brauer, Executive Director, BCSP/CCHEST gave presentations on safety and health certification and promoted the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance at several ASSE Chapter meetings.
- Work with other Alliance participants on safety and health certification and professionalism issues and projects.
2008 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week, May 4-10, 2008, Washington, DC
BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH joined with more than 50 other Alliance Program participants to support 2008 NAOSH Week. NAOSH Week, sponsored by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), an Alliance Program participant, focuses on increasing the understanding of the positive benefits of investing in occupational safety, health and environmental programs among employers, employees and the public; raising awareness of the role and contribution of safety, health and environmental professionals; and reducing workplace injuries and illness by encouraging new safety and health activities at all companies and organizations. The theme for the 2008 NAOSH Week was "Safety is Good Business." In support of NAOSH Week, BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH posted information regarding 2008 NAOSH Week on the BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH and OSHA Alliance-related Web pages on the organization's Web sites.
- Share information among OSHA personnel and safety and health professionals regarding achieving and maintaining professionalism and BCSP, CCHEST and/or ABIH certifications.
2008 OSHA On-site Consultation Training Conference, April 28 - May 1, 2008, Seattle, Washington
Through the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance, Roger Brauer, Executive Director, BCSP/CCHEST gave a presentation about the value of professional certification at the 2008 OSHA On-site Consultation Training Conference on May 1, 2008 in Seattle, Washington.

- Executive Summary
During the first year of the Alliance, OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH agreed to focus on encouraging safety and health professionals to strive for enhanced knowledge of workplace safety and health programs, processes, and regulations by providing information and guidance regarding the value of safety and health professionalism and accredited certifications.
In addition, the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance implementation team completed a number of successful projects that advanced safety and health accredited certifications and promoted the Alliance Program, including:
- The OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance Web page on the Agency's Web site features links to related documents, information of the Alliance's activities and events, and milestones and successes including the BCSP and CCHEST Database of Safety and Related Academic Programs in the United States, and BCSP publications; Career Paths in Safety, Value of Certification Fact Sheet and the Career Guide to the Safety Profession.
- BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH developed Alliance-related Web pages on their organization's' Web site that includes links to the Alliance agreement, renewal agreement, and the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance Web page on OSHA's Web site.
- Revised the brochure, "Career Paths in Safety," that has information on the education and experience needed and the types of safety certifications available to individuals interested in a career in safety. BCSP provides copies of the brochure to OSHA for distribution during conferences and meetings.
- Revised the fact sheet, "The CSP and the Value of Certification," that includes information on benefits to employers, salaries, professionalism and accreditation. BCSP also provides copies of the fact sheet to OSHA for distribution during conferences and meetings.

- Upcoming Milestones
In the upcoming year, the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance Implementation Team members will continue to promote the Alliance and OSHA compliance assistance resources to BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH members and others in the safety and health profession. The organizations will continue to update the Alliances Web page on the Agency Web site and the BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance-related Web pages on the organization's Web sites.
Representatives from the Alliance Implementation Team will also continue to promote safety and health certification and professionalism through speaking and exhibiting opportunities at national, regional, local and company conferences, schools and other safety related events, including the National Safety Congress, American Industrial Hygiene Association Conference, and ASSE Professional Development Conference. In addition, BCSP will conduct meetings with governmental and private sector organizations to discuss the value of certifications. The OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance will also join with other Alliance Program participants in supporting the 2009 NAOSH Week, May 3-9, 2009, which is sponsored by the ASSE and supported by numerous other Alliance Program participants.
In addition, the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance will work with the Washington Group International, another Alliance Program participant, to develop a case study on the successful implementation and impact of the organization's STS Certification Program.
Finally, BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH will recognize the OSHA and BCSP/CCHEST/ABIH Alliance in career publications printed and distributed by BCSP, CCHEST and ABIH.
