Alliance Close-Out Report
as of September 1, 2005
On August 10, 2004, OSHA and the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) formed an Alliance that focuses on helping to prepare employees, including but not limited to youth and Spanish-speaking workers, and small business employers and others, to respond to emergency situations by providing information, guidance, and access to training resources on various safety and health topics. Specifically, the Alliance focuses on emergency preparedness and response, including business continuity issues, and first aid information such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) techniques.
The OSHA - ASHI Alliance implementation team also met on August 10, 2004 to develop ideas for projects or activities that could be pursued to achieve the goals of the Alliance. A number of the ideas generated by the implementation team included:
- ASHI pursuing efforts to cross train OSHA staff;
- ASHI reviewing its publications for potential articles contributed by OSHA;
- ASHI reviewing OSHA's Safety and Health Topics Pages for potential membership on OSHA's editorial boards.
After the OSHA and ASHI signing and implementation team meeting, ASHI experienced a number of staffing changes and reorganization. As ASHI's focus was directed towards establishing new priorities for the organization, it did not have sufficient resources for developing programs or products to meet the goals of the Alliance agreement. As a result, OSHA and ASHI agreed to conclude the Alliance as of September 1, 2005.
