Overview:
Through the Alliance, OSHA and Altec are working together to provide information, guidance, and access to training resources to help protect employees' health and safety, including non-English or limited English speaking workers. The Alliance continues to address the safe operation of cranes, digger derricks, and insulated and non-insulated aerial devices, including tree care devices, and focuses on industry hazards such as falls and electrocutions.

Training and Education Goal
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise to develop training and education programs in English and Spanish, on the safe operation and proper use of cranes, digger derricks, and insulated, non-insulated and aerial devices, including tree care devices.
The OSHA and Altec Alliance Implementation Team has not started work on programs or projects to address this goal.
Outreach and Communication Goals
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise in developing information on the recognition and prevention of workplace hazards, and to provide expertise in developing ways of communicating such information (e.g. print and electronic media, including electronic assistance tools and OSHA and Altec Web sites) to employers and employees in the industry.
OSHA and Altec Alliance Web Page
OSHA continues to update the OSHA and Altec Alliance Web page on the Agency's Web site. The page includes links to the Alliance renewal agreement and related documents, activities and events, and safety and health resources. During the reporting period, information on Altec Mobile Crane Training and Safe Operation of Insulated Aerial Devices Training for OSHA staff was added to the page.

Joshua Chard, Director, Product and Corporate Safety, Altec Industries, Inc., continues to serve on the editorial boards for the following OSHA Safety and Health Topics pages.

OSHA Powered Industrial Trucks eTool
OSHA completed and posted a new electronic assistance tool, the Powered Industrial Trucks eTool on the Agency Web site in September 2008. Don McAuliffe, Altec member, who served on the development team, is currently serving on the eTool's editorial board.

Events
International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition, October 6-8, 2009, Louisville, Kentucky
On February 4, 2008, Joan D. Spencer, Compliance Assistance Specialist, Region IV, Tampa, Florida Area Office, USDOL-OSHA, spoke at the CMAA's 81st Annual World Conference on Club Management, Orlando, Florida. Ms. Spencer gave a presentation entitled "Introduction to OSHA for Small Businesses" to 100 attendees. In addition, through the Alliance, OSHA staffed an OSHA and CMAA exhibit booth and provided safety and health publications including:

Altec Outreach Opportunities
Through the OSHA and Altec Alliance, OSHA continued to provided Altec with numerous copies of four of the Agency's QuickCards: Tree Trimming and Removal Safety Tips; Protect Yourself Crane Safety; Aerial Lifts Safety Tips and Chain Saw Safety Tips as well as copies of the OSHA and Altec Alliance Activities Summary. The publications were distributed by Altec company representatives from its exhibit booth during the following events:

- ICUEE, October, October 6 - 8, 2009, Louisville, Kentucky
- TCIA Expo, November 5 - 7, 2009, Baltimore, Maryland
In addition, Josh Chard made a number of presentations that included information about the OSHA and Altec Alliance along with information about workplace safety and health resources available through OSHA. The presentations were made on:

- Share information among OSHA personnel and industry safety and health professionals regarding Altec best practices or effective approaches and publicize results through outreach by Altec and through OSHA or Altec developed materials, training programs, workshops, seminars and lectures (or any other applicable forum).
Products
Mobile Crane Training Seminar
Through the Alliance, Altec delivered the Mobile Crane Training seminar to a total of 57 OSHA staff. Topics discussed during the two day training seminar included safety statements; hand signals and OSHA regulations; and unit setup and pre-operational inspection. In addition, Altec provided equipment that the training seminars' attendees used during the hands-on demonstrations. Training was conducted in the following locations:
- March 3-4, 2009, Jacksonville, Florida
- September 2-3, 2009, Seattle, Washington
Safe Operation of Insulated and Non-Insulated Aerial Device Training Seminar
Through the Alliance, Altec created and delivered the Safe Operation of Insulated and Non-Insulated Aerial Devices seminar, for OSHA staff and others based on the training materials that the company developed through it safety program, Altec SENTRY Program. Topics discussed during the one day training seminar include: best practices and safe operation of insulated and non-insulated aerial devices; issues related to minimum approach distances to energized sources and the prevention of electrocutions. In addition, Altec provided equipment that the training seminar's attendees used during the hands-on demonstrations. Ron Beach, SENTRY Safety Program Manager, Altec, conducted the safety training seminar for OSHA Regional and Area Office staff and other safety and health professionals throughout the United States. The following seminars have been conducted during the current reporting period:

Digger Derrick Training Seminar
Through the Alliance, Altec created and delivered Digger Derrick Training seminar for OSHA staff and others based on the training materials that the company developed through its safety program, Altec SENTRY Program. Article in Alliance Quarterly Review
Through the OSHA and Altec Alliance, Altec developed an article about its Best Practices training seminars for OSHA Staff on:
- Safe Operation of Insulated Aerial Devices
- Mobile Crane Training
- Digger Derrick Training
The article "Altec Trains OSHA" by Ron Beach, SENTRY, Safety Program Manager, Altec Industries, Inc., highlighted the training offered to OSHA staff during the reporting period. The article was published in the December 2008 edition of the Alliance Program's Alliance Quarterly Review.
- Work with other Alliance participants on specific issues and projects such as the safe operation and use of cranes, digger derricks, insulated, non-insulated and aerial devices, including tree care devices and industry hazards such as falls and electrocutions, that are addressed and developed through the Alliance Program.
Potential Projects with Tree Care Industry Association of America
Through the Alliance, Altec is exploring opportunities to collaborate with the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), another Alliance Program participant, to identify projects of common interest on which to work together. Potential projects include the development of Fact Sheets, Tool Box Talks, and/or Checklists.
Promoting the National Dialogue Goal
- Convene or participate in forums, round table discussions, or stakeholder meetings to address safety and health issues such as the safe use of cranes, digger derricks and aerial devices and hazards such as falls and electrocutions to help forge innovative solutions in the workplace or to provide input on safety and health issues.
The OSHA and Altec Alliance Implementation Team has not started work on programs or projects to address this goal.
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise to develop training and education programs in English and Spanish, on the safe operation and proper use of cranes, digger derricks, and insulated, non-insulated and aerial devices, including tree care devices.
- Executive Summary
Through the OSHA and Altec Alliance, the organizations have continued their excellent working relationship which has developed over the last four years of the Alliance. OSHA and Altec have continued working together during the past year on a number of projects to share and distribute safety and health information regarding cranes, insulated and non-insulated aerial devices and digger derricks.
OSHA and Altec are continuing to provide online safety and health information through the organizations' Web sites. In addition, the Web sites are regularly updated with new safety and health information. Altec is currently revising and updating its Altec SENTRY Program Web page that contains Alliance Program information.
Through the Alliance, Altec continues to distribute OSHA safety and health information including Tree Trimming and Removal Safety Tips; Protect Yourself Crane Safety Tips; Aerial Lifts Safety Tips and Chain Saw Safety Tips from its exhibit booth at numerous events.

OSHA and Altec are currently working together to sign an Alliance renewal agreement that addresses and meets the areas of concerns of the Administration. Through the Alliance's renewal agreement, the OSHA and Altec Alliance Implementation Team hopes to continue its excellent working relationship by collaborating on projects and activities to achieve the goals of the Alliance.

Through the Alliance renewal agreement, the OSHA and Altec Alliance Implementation Team will continue to advance its excellent working relationship by collaborating on projects and activities to achieve the goals of the Alliance. Altec will continue to offer the following training seminars to OSHA staff:
- Safe Operation of Insulated Aerial Devices
- Mobile Crane Training
- Digger Derrick Training
OSHA and Altec will continue to work together to promote safety and health in the workplace and the OSHA and Altec Alliance through exhibiting and speaking opportunities at trade shows and conferences. Altec will continue to update its Altec SENTRY Program Web page with safety and health resources including links to OSHA safety and health resources.
Altec also will work with other Alliance Program participants including TCIA to identify projects of common interest on which to work together. Potential project include the development of Fact Sheets, Tool Box Talks, and/or Checklists.
In addition, through the OSHA and Altec Alliance, Altec will begin work on a pamphlet focusing on Chipper safety for the industry that will contain both English and Spanish language.
Josh Chard will continue to serve as a member of the editorial board for the Cranes, Derrick and Hoist Safety; Electrical Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Industry; and Tree Care Industry Safety and Health Topics pages and will provide feedback as appropriate. Finally, Altec representative, Don McAuliffe will serve with other Alliance Program participants on the editorial board for the Agency's Powered Industrial Truck eTool.
