Close-out Report
December 30, 2009

On October 17, 2005, OSHA and SkillsUSA formed an Alliance to provide career and technical educators and their students with materials, guidance, and access to training resources that will impact the occupational safety and health of young workers. OSHA and SkillsUSA renewed the Alliance on December 18, 2007.

Because the OSHA and SkillsUSA achieved the goals of the Alliance, the organizations agreed to conclude the Alliance as of October 17, 2009. A number of successes resulted from the agreement including:

  • On June 25, 2008, Edwin G. Foulke Jr., then-Assistant Secretary, USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation entitled, "OSHA Update" at the Special Joint Delegate Session. On June 26, 2008, he gave a presentation entitled, "OSHA Update and the OSHA and SkillsUSA Alliance" at the Official SkillsUSA Championships Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

  • During the SkillsUSA 2008 National Leadership & Skills Conference and TECHSPO, June 26-29, 2008, in Kansas City, Missouri Robert Nester, Health Scientist, Office of Occupational Health Nursing, DTSEM, USDOL-OSHA, participated in the conference's SkillsUSA Competition as a judge for the Safety Notebook and the Practical Nursing competitions.

  • SkillsUSA promoted and participated in the OSHA 2008 Teen Summer Job Safety Campaign Kick-off event on April 21, 2008, at Rockefeller Plaza, New York, New York. In addition, SkillsUSA supported OSHA’s 2005, 2006 and 2007 Teen Summer Job Safety Campaigns.

  • SkillsUSA promoted and supported the 2005-2008 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Weeks and the 2007-2009 Drug-Free Work Weeks.

  • SkillsUSA representatives served on the editorial boards of the 17 OSHA Safety and Health Topics pages.
