    • Early 1990s, VPP’s popularity grew, but OSHA’s resources did not
    • OSHA worked with VPPPA and developed the concept of "qualified volunteer"/SGE
    • In 1994, SGE Program began

    As VPP’s popularity grew, OSHAs resources DID NOT….we needed additional personnel to conduct onsite evaluations for new and existing VPP participants.

    With the assistance of the VPPPA, the concept of “qualified volunteer” or SGEs was developed. By using SGEs as on-site evaluation team members, OSHA can significantly leverage its limited resources by gaining safety and health expertise and the perspectives of labor and industry representatives.

    In 1994, the SGE program officially began.

    NOTE: Paul Villane, former VPPPA Executive Director, was our 1st SGE.
