Alaskan Brewing Co. Sees Consistent Decline in Experience Modifier Rate |
|||
Since 1986 when Alaskan Brewing was founded, the company has taken proactive steps to ensure a safe workplace – using its experience modifier rate as a steady, credible measure of progress toward an injury and illness free workplace. Voluntarily inviting OSHA’s Consultation Program to conduct annual safety inspections was another approach Alaskan Brewing took to ensure it was maintaining a safe work environment. Five years ago, the company took its commitment to safety a step further by applying for and being accepted into the SHARP program – making it the second company in the entire state to qualify for SHARP. At Alaskan Brewing, the commitment to safety flows throughout the organization and employees are invested in the approach because of their involvement in its development. To reinforce the value of safety to the company and to consistently engage its employees, Alaskan Brewing hosts monthly departmental and safety committee meetings. Quarterly safety meetings are also held, at which time, brewery operations are shut down and all staff participates in cross-sectional team discussions of safety issues. Each group discussion results in a list of 3 top areas of concern that are forwarded to top management for action and resolution. |
