    Speaker Notes:

Listed are some of the recent maritime outreach/communication projects that are either in process or have
been completed. In some way, members of ASA, NSRP and SCA contributed to each project.

    - SCA Ergonomic Video was produced through the Susan Harwood Training Grant. Ergonomic Video was distributed to OSHA staff and others through the Alliance. Over 40 SCA members and OSHA attended each training sessions in Seattle in May 2003 and near Mobile, AL in Jun 2003.

    - Currently, all three Alliances are working on completing the Shipyard Employment eTool. The eTool is
designed to address safety and health issues in the ship building, ship repair and ship breaking industries.
Through the Alliance program, all three organizations have members participating on the eTool’s
Editorial Board who are contributing valuable information.

One good example of valuable information is the barge cleaning material that SCA has been able to contribute the Editorial Board. Barge cleaning is an important topic to the maritime industry that had not been addressed until SCA became part of the Alliance program. The next Editorial Board meeting will be held March 8, 2004 at SCA member VT Halter Marine in Pascagoula, MS.

ASA and NSRP’s Implementation Teams have agreed to work on putting together a maritime safety workshop at the next National Safety Council Congress in September. The proposal has been accepted by the NSC.

Funding has been approved for development of SHIPS and Fatality Videos through Directorate of Science, Technology and Medicine. Future work on the SHIPS and Fatality Videos can be addressed through the Alliances and reviewed by Maritime Advisory Committee on Safety and Health
