OSHA and Arizona Alliance for Safety and Health
Closeout Report

On May 13, 2003, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Region I; the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH); the OSHA Region 9 Education Center, University of California San Diego; Arizona State University; Lovitt-Touche Inc.; the Associated General Contractors, Arizona Chapter (AGC); the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), Arizona Chapter; the Southwest Safety Training Alliance (SSTA); ETC Compliance Solutions; the National Safety Congress (NSC), Arizona Chapter; the Associated Safety Engineers of Arizona (ASEA); the Southwest Safety Congress; Klondike Inc.; Workplace Safety Specialists; Delta Diversified Electrical; United Rentals; Schuff International; and Achen-Gardner formed the Arizona Alliance for Safety and Health.

The goal of the alliance was to promote awareness and knowledge of safety and health through the joint efforts of the participants. The primary emphasis was on the delivery of safety and health training and education for the benefit of employers and employees in the State of Arizona.

OSHA Region IX has decided to conclude the Alliance as of July31, 2009. OSHA and the alliance members will continue to work together through other avenues to promote awareness and knowledge of safety and health.

A number of successes resulted from the organizations' work together to meet the agreement's goals:
* Through the Alliance, the OSHA Region 9 Education Center, University of California in San Diego, put on the following classes in Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma AZ in 2005 and 2006:
  • Trainer Course in Occupational Safety & Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OSHA 500)- 6 courses
  • Trainer Course in Occupational Safety & Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 501) – 3 courses
  • Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 502) -2 courses
  • Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers (OSHA 503)
  • Permit Required Confined Space Entry (OSHA 2260)
  • OSHA Guide to Industrial Hygiene (OSHA 521)
  • Introduction to Accident Investigation (OSHA 7505)
  • Disaster Site Worker Course (OSHA 7600)
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control for Healthcare Facilities (OSHA 7200)
  • Fall Arrest Systems (OSHA 3110)
  • Respiratory Protection (OSHA 2225)
  • Excavation, Trenching and Soil Mechanics (OSHA 3010)
  • Trenching Trainer Course
