Outreach and Communication
Events:
Prior to (and following) the signing of this agreement, OSHA representatives
attended five joint meetings of the NDE – IMES and SkillsUSA Nebraska
coordinators and the career education faculty from across the State. Each
meeting was held in a different city in Nebraska, in order to accommodate
faculty from various school districts. OSHA representatives gave presentations
on Young Worker safety, safety education, and the vision for what the alliance
would entail.
The CAS spoke to approximately 250 students from around the State of Nebraska,
at the annual state-wide SkillsUSA Nebraska competition. The presentation
described OSHA and its mission, young worker injury and illness statistics, the
importance of workplace safety and health, young worker rights under the OSH
Act, and steps that young workers can take to protect themselves in the
workplace. A "lively" discussion followed the presentation.
The SkillsUSA – Nebraska annual competition will be the focal point of
educational efforts under this Alliance.

- Upcoming Milestones
We are currently exploring additional opportunities to provide outreach and
communication to young workers and SkillsUSA coordinators across the state. We
continue to provide information on young worker safety and health issues to the
SkillsUSA Nebraska State Director for his consideration and dissemination. We
are hoping to expand our role at the next annual competition so that more
students will have exposure to this important information.
