Background Nearly 200,000 teens in the U.S. are injured each year in occupational settings. Approximately 70 teens under the age of 18 years of age are fatally injured annually. Work place fatalities among teen workers resulted from homicides, equipment rollovers, falls, and electrocutions. Teens are injured while working in agriculture, retail, services, construction and other industries. Common injuries sustained among teens are sprains, strains, contusions, lacerations, and fractures, amongst others. In an effort to reduce fatalities and injuries among teen workers, the Houston North and South Area Offices of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (hereupon referred to as SHA), American Society of Safety Engineers - Gulf Coast Chapter (ASSE-GCC), and Houston Independent School District (HISD) recognize the value of establishing a collaborative relationship to foster safer and more healthful American workplaces through educating students and faculty of HISD. OSHA, ASSE-GCC, and HISD therefore agree to form an Alliance to use their collective expertise to help foster a culture of prevention while sharing best practices and technical knowledge. OSHA, ASSE-GCC, and HISD agree to establish an Alliance to promote occupational safety and health for students of HISD who may be employed or soon to be employed to increase hazard recognition and elimination of potential hazards and/or injuries by:
This agreement will remain in effect for one year from the date of signing and will automatically be renewed annually thereafter. This agreement may be modified at any time with the concurrence of all signatories and may be' terminated for any reason with 30 days written notice from any signatory.
