- Alliance Background

Alliance Overview: OSHA will provide expertise to develop training and education
programs for electrical contractors and their employees regarding construction
industry hazards, such as falls, electrocution, arc flash events, working in
trenches and excavations, and the hazards associated with moving equipment. It
will also address the issue of the small construction employer’s challenges in
developing safety and health programs.
NECA and OSHA will work together to provide expertise to develop workplace
safety and health curricula on hazards common in the construction industry.

Evaluation Period: The evaluation period is from August 16, 2007 to
January 9, 2009.
- Implementation Team Meetings
Implementation team meetings were held on these dates: November 17, 2007 and
August 27, 2008.
- Activities and Products
The Madison CAS, at the request of NECA, CAS talked to NECA employer about a
recent Iowa OSHA citation and their rights and responsibilities post issuance on
May 30, 2008.
The alliance is currently making plans for two OSHA presentations to NECA: A
workshop about Electrical Safe Work Practices in January 2009 and a presentation
on VPP at their January 2009 winter meeting.
- Results
The Wisconsin OSHA offices have begun to establish a working relationship with
NECA and are beginning to make plans for how best to execute the alliance. We
look forward to the coming year and its possibilities.
