I. Alliance Background
This alliance was re-signed on April 15, 2005.
Alliance Overview: The alliance was formed to promote safe and healthful working conditions for immigrant workers in general and Hispanic/Latino workers in particular.
Implementation Team Members: Kimberly Stille (OSHA), Leslie Ptak (OSHA) and Patrick Hickey (Interfaith Coalition for Worker Justice)
Evaluation Period: The evaluation period is from March 6, 2006 to August 7, 2007.
II. Implementation Team Meetings
No implementation team meetings were held in the reporting period. At the time of the second signing the ICWJ was in a state of transition, trying to determine what its mission would be. Despite the changes that did occur, OSHA has always been able to carry out the Agency’s goals with respect to this alliance; to reach the Latino workers who need information about workplace safety and health protections.
III. Activities and Products
The Alliance’s primary product is the training of ICWJ service advocates who communicate regularly with OSHA’s customers, Latino workers in the Dane County area. Three meetings have been held to discuss the best ways to provide training to the advocates, as well as other community service providers. The dates of those meetings were: May 9 and July 22 of 2006. The Alliance also resulted in four presentations by the Madison Compliance Assistance Specialist about OSHA at the Coalition’s service provider training sessions. These sessions took place on July 15, 2006 and February 17, March 24 and June 9 of 2007.
The ICWJ continues to be an effective hub of information about workplace rights in the Dane County area and the Madison area office has successfully leveraged the Alliance to get information about employees’ OSHA rights to this community. Support of the ICWJ has resulted in working relationships with many Latino community service providers which is useful in our office’s overall outreach to these workers.
