Alliance Overview

OSHA, Onsite Consultation and the GFAI formed an Alliance to provide the GFAI members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to fire, fall, confined space and amputation hazards and addressing issues of emergency action plans, exits, fire extinguishers, grain bin entry, working on top of railcars and machine guarding.

Implementation Team Members

Peggy Zweber, CAS, OSHA Peoria Area Office and John Lee, Safety Director. Brian Bothast, CAS, will be taking over the Alliance OSHA contact duties in 2008.

Ms. Zweber made various attempts to contact Mr. Lee by phone message and email in 2007.

III. Activities and Products

Evaluation Period.

January 2007 to January 2008

Alliance Activity.

CAS Brian Bothast spoke to the Board of Directors meeting in January 2008 on the current alliance, the Voluntary Protection Program and OSHA emphasis programs. He advised the Board that a plan on the Alliance needed to occur for 2008. CAS Bothast would be meeting with GFAI Safety Director John Lee at their February 2008 conference where he is a speaker.

At the GFAI Conference, John Lee advised CAS Bothast that the Board decided to continue the Alliance and Mr. Lee and CAS Bothast agreed on 3 training sessions this summer by OSHA for the GFAI membership. The topics of the training sessions will be decided by OSHA and provided to GFAI. Times and locations not yet decided.

Alliance Products.

There were no Alliance products in 2007.

IV. Results

CAS Zweber attempted contact by phone messages and emails during 2007 without response. CAS Bothast spoke to the Board of Directors in an attempt to revitalize the Alliance. The Board decided to continue the Alliance with training sessions provided by OSHA to membership.

V. Upcoming Milestones

CAS Bothast spoke at the GFAI Annual Conference on Presidents' Day 2008 (this information will be in next year's report).

There will be three summer training sessions for the GFAI membership on safety and health issues related to the industry.
