    Alliance Overview

    The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Construction Association of South Florida (CASF) agreed to establish an Alliance to promote safe and healthful working conditions for employees in the construction industry, particularly hard-to-reach and youth workers.

  2. Implementation Team Meetings

    During this period, the Alliance Implementation Team conducted monthly Alliance meetings to discuss the established goals and upcoming activities.

  3. Events and Products

    Training and Education

    Event

    • During this period, the Alliance group conducted and participated in the following safety and health training activities:
      • On February 25, 2010, the Alliance group conducted a training session focused on developing Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and developing effective site-specific Safety and Health Management Systems (SHMS).
      • On June 24, 2010, the Alliance group conducted a hurricane preparedness training session for employers in south Florida.
      • On April 23, 2010, the Alliance group supported the CASF Construction Safety Conference. Topics addressed during this event included the following: OSHA Update; Safety Equipment; and Best Practices. This event also featured safety exhibits, demonstrations, and short courses.
      • On May 15, 2010, the Alliance group participated in South Florida Safety Expo, which was sponsored by the South Florida and East Coast Chapters of the Associated General Contractors of America.

    Outreach and Communications

    • During this period, the Alliance group conducted and participated in the following safety and health outreach activities:
      • Several CASF members were newly registered for the OSHA Region IV E-newsletter.
      • The Alliance group assisted in the distribution of safety and health outreach material, such as the "Rigging Awareness 101," which was developed by the OSHA - Florida Crane Alliance.

    Promoting the National Dialogue on Safety and Health

    • During this period, several articles were written and published in the CASF’s newsletter, which promoted safety and health, as well as the OSHA - CASF Alliance.
  4. Results

    Significant achievements in the area of training and education included the Alliance group’s participating in the AGC Safety Expo and the CASF Safety Conference. We believe the group’s safety and health outreach to the construction industry has helped reduce the number of construction- related fatalities in South Florida.
