    Overview
    The main purpose of this Alliance with this Faith Based Organization (FBO) is to increase access to safety and health information and training to Hispanic workers, especially "Day Laborers". This has been done by putting on 10 hour OSHA courses (Both General Industry and Construction) in Spanish. A member of WOS received the OSHA 500 Course (Trainer course in OSHA standards for Construction) and has been one of the 10 hour construction course trainers

    After first meeting the implementation meetings were held at the conclusion of each 10 hour.
    Several meeting and conference calls were held between July14, 2004 - October 3, 2004 in preparation for the Blockbuster 10 hour Course

    OSHA literature in Spanish is provided to WOS for distribution at their office

    • October 28, 2004: CBO/FBO New Jersey CBO/FBO Alliance Day/Conference. This was a conference held where Community and Faith-Based Hispanic-Latino Organizations where invited to find out how OSHA works with Community and Faith-Based organizations to reduce work-related injuries, illnesses and fatalities among their membership and how your organization can become an alliance partner with OSHA. Representatives of AFSC made presentation at the conference. WOS representative helped in to organize the conference

    • The 10 hour OSHA Spanish courses that were created as part of this (and other CBO/FBO) Alliance have been provided to the OSHA Hispanic clearing house.
    Promoting the National Dialogue on Workplace Safety and Health
     
    • Information on this Alliance (and other CBO/FBO) was provided at the ASSE conference held June, 2006 in Seattle. Similar information has been provided at the Annual Mid- Atlantic Expo and presentation made to various trade associations such as Building Contractor association of NJ and the Utility Contractor Association of NJ

    Over 200 workers have taken the OSHA 10 hour course through this Alliance.

     
  5. Upcoming Milestones


    The Alliance will be renewed in March or April of 2007
    OSHA and WOS Alliance Implementation Team have discussed a number of activities that will be undertaken in the upcoming year. These include .the 10 hour OSHA courses given in Spanish. The plan is to have these courses administered by the OSHA certified trainer. In addition, WOS will continue to promote OSHA's goals through continued distribution of OSHA literature in Spanish.

    Finally, WOS has demonstrated their continued support and interest in goals of the Alliance agreement and will work with OSHA to identify the topics and goals of the renewal agreement that best address the interest of both organizations.
