Overview
As a means to promote driver safety, for drivers of all ages, OSHA, the NJ State Safety Council, the
NJ Department of Labor and the NJ Governor’s Highway Traffic Safety Policy Advisory Council formed
an Alliance. The Alliance was signed at the NJ State Safety Council’s Annual Safety and Loss Control
Expo.

II. Implementation Team Meetings
Throughout the course of the Alliance Implementation Team meetings were conducted quarterly at the
Northern NJ Federal Safety & Health Council meetings; February, June, September & November
throughout the course of the Alliance.
III. Events and Products
Training and Education
- Events
- William C. Margaretta, Pres. NJ State Safety Council conducted a Driver Education Program at the
September meeting of the Northern NJ Federal Safety and Health Council.
- Mr. Margaretta conducted driver/fleet safety training at the Voluntary Protection Program
Participants Association Annual Conference.
- Mr. Margaretta conducted an “Alive at 25” Driver Education Program for the NJ Cooperative
Education Coordinators Association / OSHA Alliance Team members.
- At each Northern New Jersey Federal Safety & Health Council meeting an OSHA display table is set
up with safety and health publications including NJ State Safety Council Safe Driving literature.
- Products
- In each OSHA folder distributed at conferences, seminars, OSHA 10 Hour General Industry &
Construction Programs and outreach efforts, two pamphlets are included which promote driver safety.

IV. Results
The results of the Alliance have been very positive. In addition to the above, the NJ Vision Council
and the OSHA / Prevent Blindness Tri-State Alliance have also promoted driver safety – both behind
the wheel of automobiles and powered industrial trucks.

OSHA also has an Alliance with the NJ Department of Education. At all events where teachers,
students and school personnel are gathered for OSHA events, safe driver literature is distributed.
V. Upcoming Milestones
OSHA and the other Alliance partners will promote the “Alive at 25” Young Driver safe driving
program.
It is expected that the Alliance will be re-signed at the NJ State Safety Council’s 23 rd Annual
Safety & Loss Control Expo – April 18th, 2007.
