"How to Build a House" Seminar
Through the OSHA and National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Alliance, NAHB members and staff conduct a "How to Build a House" seminar for OSHA federal, State Plan State and On-site Consultation Program representatives. More than 120 attendees participated in the following seminars:
- November 3, 2010 – Little Rock, Arkansas
- November 1, 2007 - Laurel, Maryland
- October 5, 2006 - Elyria, Ohio
- May 26, 2006 - Indianapolis, Indiana
- November 15, 2005 - Red Bank, New Jersey
The seminar focuses on the makeup, structure and components of the home building industry including:
new home construction process; materials and construction methods used at a worksite; personnel,
techniques and trade contractors involved in the construction of a home and recognizing the key
safety hazards confronted by builders. In addition, residential construction building techniques are
highlighted for the seminar participants during a worksite tour.
The seminar's presentations and the attendees' discussions with the instructors impressed, Quindaro
Cheatham, Indiana Deputy Commissioner of Labor - INSafe. "It was very helpful to see each phase of
the building process during the on-site training. My consultants found the seminar to be very
helpful," said Ms. Cheatham.
According to Patricia Clark, then-Regional Administrator, Region II, USDOL-OSHA,
"Home building is an area where we need to emphasize the type of training that
NAHB provided through this seminar. Training like this can help OSHA Compliance
Safety and Health Officers be better prepared to help home builders operate safe
work sites."
