- "Managing Chemical Reactivity Hazards: a Workshop for Non-Chemists." This course was
organized and sponsored by the OSHA and Chemical Reactivity Hazards Management Alliance. It was
designed for small chemical manufacturers, warehouse facilities, distributors and batch
processors. It provided information on chemical reactivity hazards and strategies and tools for
identifying and preventing reactivity accidents at manufacturing facilities. In addition,
representatives from The Dow Chemical Company, an Alliance Program participant, helped to
develop the workshop. Additional sponsors of the workshop are the National Federation of
Independent Business, also an OSHA Alliance Program participant, and the East Harris County
Manufacturers Association.
- November 16-17, 2005: OSHA and Dow Alliance Workshop, "OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM)
Standard: The Dow Approach," The Dow Chemical Company's West Virginia Operations, South Charleston,
West Virginia.
A workshop was held for OSHA's Region III staff that covered how Dow addresses and implements the PSM standard in its workplaces and discussed various aspects of the standard, including process
safety information, process hazard analysis procedures, and layers of protection analysis and
safety instrumented systems.
- September 26, 2005: Chlorine Institute's 2005 Fall Meeting, Sheraton Atlanta Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia.

- May 14, 2004: American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Ergonomics Roundtable, Washington,
DC. At a meeting hosted by AAOS, Karen Kerns, Senior Industrial Hygienist, Global Industrial Hygiene Expertise Center, The Dow Chemical Company, made a presentation to Alliance Program participants, including
AAOS, the Graphics Arts Coalition (GAC) and the American Society of Safety Engineers, on a new workplace quantitative ergonomics risk assessment tool. Representatives from GAC and AAOS also made presentations to the group.
- September 16, 2003: OSHA/The Dow Chemical Company Workshop, "OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) Standard: The Dow Approach." OSHA Training

- June, 12, 2003: 2nd Annual OSHA Compliance Assistance Conference, Tysons Corner Marriott, Vienna, Virginia. Samuel L. Smolik, Vice President, Environment,
Health and Safety, The Dow Chemical Company, "A Vision and Culture of Zero," spoke to the Compliance Assistance Conference attendees about
the Dow Chemical Company's tips and techniques that have helped the company reduce injuries and illnesses of Dow employees and contractors by 73 percent
globally since 1994.
