Other Potential Hazards and Solutions
Cold
Young workers may be exposed to cold temperatures while carrying groceries to cars or if working outdoors.
Here are some tips to avoid cold illnesses:
- Dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
- Wear warm, layered clothing in cold weather, including hat and gloves. In cold weather, pay special attention to protecting feet, hands, face, and head. Up to 40 % of body heat can be lost when the head is exposed.
- Take frequent short breaks in warm dry shelters to allow the body to warm up.
- Learn to recognize and seek medical help for yourself or co-workers that have symptoms of cold related stresses.
