Analytical Methodolgies-Future Needs

Future needs (immediate) are probably not going to be within instrumentation, and XRD and IR are here to stay for awhile. Other issues which should be pursued in the future: 1) Comprehensive evaluation of DOF 2) Keep up with developments in sampling to assure continued analytical capability 3) Tridymite & statistics need a consensus opinion on tridymite regarding toxicity and analysis. The structure is nebulous. Survey displayed that although methods are very similar, there seems to be discrepency regarding reporting performance. This implies a more universal agreement is needed for det limits etc. 4) Examination of Thermal Analyzers for Bulk identification (HAZCOM) usage. There can be an interference problem in identifying quartz in bulks especially from 0.1 to 1% quartz. 5) Multivariate approach: Norway appears to be having good success with this approach.
