Employee suffers serious injury to hand in bottling machine

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on March 26, 2003, an employee was operating a bottle labeling machine. He turned off the conveyor line to clean a bottle sensor that was malfunctioning. At the time of the accident, the man was walking off the machine deck after cleaning the sensor. He slipped on broken bottles that resulted from the sensor malfunction and the employee's right hand landed in the labeling machine's opening located behind the operator's station. The employee suffered a serious disfiguring injury to his hand. He was hospitalized with contusions and abrasions.
