F = S x N / W Where S = Manufacturer's rated breaking strength of one rope. N = Number of ropes under load. W = Maximum static load on all ropes with the platform and its rated load at any point of its travel.(iv) Hoisting ropes shall be sized to conform with the required factor of safety, but in no case shall the size be less than 5/16 inch diameter.
