OSHA Training for Central New England Nursing/Personal Care
Facilities to be Held in Nashua, N.H. -- November 14

Nashua, N.H. -- Helping nursing and personal care facilities reduce occupational injuries and illness is the subject of an upcoming training session presented by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Northern New England Chapters of the American Red Cross and Keene State College.

The training, which will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2002, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the New Hampshire Community Technical College in Nashua, NH, is designed for facility operators, safety and health managers, hospital managers and employee representatives from nursing and personal care facilities in Central New England.

Participants will receive training to identify and address the occupational hazards most prevalent in nursing facilities-ergonomic injuries primarily related to resident handling; exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials; exposure to tuberculosis; and slips, trips and falls. Resident handling, slips, trips and falls account for the majority of injuries suffered by nursing home workers.

The training is part of an OSHA national emphasis program focusing outreach and enforcement efforts on specific hazards in nursing and personal care facilities with high injury and illness rates. Participants may earn 0.4 Continuing Education Units from Keene State College.

Seating is limited; so advance registration is requested. To register, or to obtain directions or further information, call Keene State College at 1-800-449-6742.
