Garda Cash Logistics in Georgia cited by US Department of Labor's OSHA
for failure-to-abate and serious violations; more than $55,000 in fines proposed
NORCROSS, Ga. – The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Garda Cash Logistics for four safety and health violations. Proposed fines total $55,400 following a September inspection at the company's facility in Norcross.
"This employer continues to endanger its workers by ignoring previous citations and failing to correct hazardous conditions," said Bill Fulcher, director of OSHA's Atlanta-East Area Office. "Such disregard for worker safety is unacceptable."
Three failure-to-abate violations, with $51,000 in penalties, involve failing to develop a written hazard communication program for employees that are required to work with hazardous chemicals; ensure the emergency exit does not require a key; and develop a lockout/tagout program where workers perform vehicle maintenance. A failure-to-abate citation is issued when an employer fails to fix or address previously cited hazardous conditions, practices or noncompliant equipment.
A serious violation, with a penalty of $4,400, was cited for failing to provide an emergency eyewash station for areas where employees worked with corrosive chemicals. A serious violation occurs when there is substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard about which the employer knew or should have known.
Garda Cash Logistics is an armored car service that transports money for financial institutions and businesses. The company has 15 business days from receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request a conference with OSHA's area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
