OSHA extends deadline for member nominations
to the Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health

WASHINGTON – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is extending the deadline for submitting membership nominations to the Federal Advisory Council on Occupational Safety and Health (FACOSH). OSHA is extending the deadline because of a lack of qualified candidates being nominated for membership. The deadline has been extended to Oct. 31, 2011.

Nominees will fill three labor and three management representative vacancies. The Secretary of Labor will appoint new members to three-year terms.

FACOSH advises the Secretary of Labor on occupational safety and health issues related to the federal workforce. This includes providing federal agencies with advice on how to reduce the number of injuries and illnesses in the workforce and how to encourage federal agencies to establish and maintain effective occupational safety and health programs.

Nominations may be submitted at, the Federal eRulemaking Portal. Nominations can also be mailed or faxed. See the Federal Register notice for details on submission.

General information inquiries should be directed to Mr. Francis Yebesi, OSHA Office of Federal Agency Programs, at 202-693-2122. Press inquiries should directed to Mr. Frank Meilinger, OSHA Office of Communications, at 202-693-1999.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA’s role is to ensure these conditions for America’s working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, education and assistance. For more information, visit
