DENVER -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the OSHA Training Institute, Rocky Mountain Education Center at Red Rocks Community College (RMEC) in Lakewood, Colo., have formed an alliance to provide information, guidance and training resources to Colorado employees working in both general industry and construction.
OSHA's area offices in Colorado and the RMEC will collaborate on training and education programs for highway workzone safety, oil and gas well drilling and servicing, residential construction, fall protection, trenching and excavations, electrical safety, machine guarding and lockout/tagout. Lockout/tagout refers to preventing accidental start-up of machinery during maintenance. The alliance partners will paticipate in conferences, forums, stakeholder meetings and other events.
"This alliance illustrates a mutual commitment to safety and health hazard prevention," said Greg Baxter, OSHA regional administrator in Denver. "Both OSHA and the Rocky Mountain Education Center believe in working towards instilling a safety culture in our nation's employees, as well as promoting best practices and technical knowledge for both general industry and the construction industry."
John Healy, director of OSHA's Englewood Area Office, and Herb Gibson, director of OSHA's Denver Area Office, represented the agency at the recent signing ceremony in Lakewood, along with Richard E. Hawkins, executive director of the Rocky Mountain Education Center.
