FREDERICKSBURG, Pa. -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has certified the Sherwin-Williams Distribution and Supply Center as a "star" site in its Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP). During a recent ceremony at the facility in Fredericksburg, Marie A. Cassady, OSHA's acting regional administrator based in Philadelphia, presented the company with a VPP star flag.
A warehouse and distribution site for Sherwin-Williams and related brand paint and coating products, the center employs 287 people, and has achieved an injury and illness rate 79 percent below the industry average.
"Star" is the highest level of recognition that an employer can achieve in the VPP. This level is designed for worksites with comprehensive, successful safety and health programs. The VPP is open to all industries and to companies with injury rates below their respective industries' national averages. The programs currently encompass 1,793 worksites of companies from more than 280 industries. OSHA's VPP has proven over the years to be an effective means of reducing injuries, illnesses, fatalities and costs, while fostering a more productive workforce and increasing employee morale.
