Goals are awareness, training in oil and gas, construction and petrochemical industries
ODESSA, Texas -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today formed an alliance with the West Texas Safety Training Center in Odessa to promote job safety and health in the area.
The alliance will assist the West Texas Safety Training Center in expanding and enhancing its training curriculum, and to increase safety and health awareness in the oil and gas, construction and petrochemical industries. The center, a non-profit organization, offers services to West Texas contractors.
"This alliance provides an opportunity for OSHA and the West Texas Safety Training Center to come together to discuss hazards and how to maximize employee safety," said Frank Strasheim, the agency's acting regional administrator in Dallas. "Employers that use the center's services and, most important, their employees, will receive up-to-date information relevant to day-to-day duties."
OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and government agencies. Alliances are a means for participating organizations to network with others committed to workplace safety and health and exchange information about hazards. OSHA has more than 450 national, regional and area office alliances nationwide with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
