U. S. Department of Labor's OSHA and Panhandle Safety Training Center, Frank Phillips College, Sign Alliance Agreement

BORGER, Texas -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today formed an alliance with the Panhandle Safety Training Center of Frank Phillips College, in Borger to promote job safety and health in the panhandle region of Texas.

The alliance allows the Panhandle Safety Training Center, Frank Phillips College, to expand and enhance its training curriculum and to increase safety and health awareness throughout the community. The facility is a recognized training center of the American Safety and Health Institute.

"This agreement provides an opportunity for partners to come together to discuss safety and health hazards and how to maximize employee safety," said Frank Strasheim, OSHA's acting regional administrator in Dallas.

OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative partnerships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and government agencies.

Alliances enable organizations to collaborate with OSHA to prevent injuries and illnesses in the workplace. They are a means for participating organizations to network with others committed to workplace safety and health and exchange information about hazards in the workplace. OSHA has created approximately 450 alliances nationwide with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
