CONCORD, N.H. -- Reducing and preventing hazards for employees in the Granite State's construction industry is the goal of a new alliance among the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services' Consultation Program (NH-DES-CP) and the New Hampshire Construction Roundtable.
The alliance provides a forum in which construction companies, consultants and other roundtable members can discuss and address safety and health issues related to their work areas. Each monthly meeting will include safety and health training addressing specific construction safety and health issues brought forward by roundtable members.
"This alliance is an opportunity to provide the most needed and wanted types of training and information that will aid employees in identifying and preventing hazards before they cause injury and illness," said Rosemarie Ohar, OSHA's New Hampshire area director. "In so doing, we work together toward the common goal of having all employees return home safe and sound at the end of the workday."
The alliance's goals include sharing information on best practices and effective approaches towards construction health and safety; working together on safety and health issues developed through the alliance, encouraging roundtable members to build relationships with OSHA's area and regional offices and promoting their participation in OSHA's cooperative programs.
The alliance was signed Jan. 30 in Concord by Ohar; Stephen Beyer, consultation project manager with the NH-DES-CP; Andrea O'Brien, Compliance Assistance Program, N.H. Small Business Development Center; and Gary Doyle, principal/sole proprietor, Alliance Services Group. OSHA safety and health alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative partnerships with trade associations, labor organizations, employers and government agencies. OSHA currently has more than 450 alliances throughout the nation with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
