Western Aircraft's Boise Facility Earns "SHARP" Status In Recognition of Exemplary Workplace Safety and Health

BOISE, Idaho -- Western Aircraft Inc.'s facility in Boise has earned membership in the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

A recognition ceremony will be held on Sept. 27 at company headquarters at 4300 S. Kennedy St., Boise.

"Western Aircraft has placed safety as a core value in its business plan. In collaboration with employees, it continues to improve an already excellent safety and health management system," said OSHA Regional Administrator Richard Terrill in Seattle.

Western Aircraft Inc is the largest independent aircraft-services company in the Pacific Northwest and an authorized service center, certified aircraft repair station and worldwide distributor of parts and avionics for many of the world's top aircraft manufacturers. The company has five large hangers, totaling more than 70,000 square feet, and approximately 150 employees.

In addition to its exemplary safety and health management system, the plant has an injury and illness case rate well below the industry average. As a SHARP company, Western Aircraft Inc. is exempt from OSHA programmed inspections until Aug. 28, 2007.

Through SHARP, OSHA recognizes smaller employers who operate exemplary safety and health management systems. SHARP is designed to provide incentives and support to employers who implement and continuously improve effective safety and health management systems at their work sites. SHARP may be renewed for sites that continue to maintain exemplary safety and health management systems.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
