New Alliance Will Promote Safety for Area Oil and Gas Workers

BATON ROUGE -- Furthering the safety and health of oil and gas industry workers in Louisiana is the goal of an alliance signed between the Baton Rouge area office of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Gulf Coast Safety and Training Group (GCS&TG).

OSHA's alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships with trade associations, labor organizations and employers.

"This is an opportunity for OSHA and members of Louisiana's oil and gas industry to come together through forums, roundtable discussions, meetings and conferences to discuss safety and health issues associated with production, drilling and crane operations," said Greg Honaker, OSHA area director in Baton Rouge.

The GCS&TG, a non-profit organization with 367 members located mainly in southern Louisiana, is comprised of both small and large employers in the oil and gas industry.

Alliances enable organizations committed to workplace safety and health to collaborate with OSHA. They provide opportunities to build trust, exchange information about best practices, and leverage resources to maximize worker safety. For more information on this alliance or about forming an alliance or partnership with OSHA's Baton Rouge area office, call (225) 298-5458.

The Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is dedicated to assuring safety and health for all American workers. Since 2001, OSHA has created more than 140 alliances with organizations committed to preventing work-related injuries and illnesses. For more information, visit www.osha.gov.
