Education and Research

Rosslyn, Virginia 22209

Dear Mr. Whyte:

This is in response to your request for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to review the Emergency First Care Instructors Guide. I apologize for the delay in responding to your request.

We have reviewed the course materials and find that the instructor guide addresses the required procedures for first aid training in construction.

Our comments are as follows:
1) A consulting official no longer has to approve first aid kits.

2) If corrosives hazards exist, drenching facilities should be covered.

3) Efficacy of training may be verified by other-than-written methods (such as by demonstration).
If we can be of any further assistance please contact the Directorate of Construction at (202) 219-8136.

Sincerely,

Russell B. Swanson
Director
Directorate of Construction
