Abstract:

OSHA proposes to modify the existing provisions for controlling
employee exposures to toxic substances found in 1910.1000(e) and
1910. 134(a)(1). OSHA proposes to incorporate additional flexibility
in its methods of compliance requirements by more explicitly setting
forth the circumstances under which respiratory protection may be
used in lieu of engineering controls. Notice is also given that
certain modifications to the compliance requirements with respect to
short-term exposures in the recently promulgated standards for
benzene, formaldehyde, and ethylene oxide may result from this
rulemaking.
