Accident Investigation Summary
Summary Nr: 129073.015 Event: 08/11/2020Employee With Covid-19 Infection Dies
An employee was working at a nursing care or skilled nursing facility. She was f ound at home dead. She had died from complications related to COVID-19. It was n ot known whether she had contracted the disease at work or within the greater co mmunity. Her employer did not consider fatality work-related. The Centers for Me dicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) sent a letter to her employer. Following receip t of the response from the employer, a medical examiner (ME) was contacted to de termine the COVID-19 status of the employee. On August 11, 2020, the medical exa miner confirmed that the employee's death was caused by acute respiratory failur e due to COVID-19. An OSHA inspection was opened August 12, 2020.
