At 8:30 a.m. on April 25, 2019, Employee #1 and a coworker, employed by a construction company, were assigned to remove and replace framing of an existing barn. Employee #1 was using a sledge hammer to remove a support column. As he struck the beam for the third time, it began to crack, and the structure collapsed. The coworker, standing approximately 10 feet from Employee #1, safely escaped through a rear side opening. Employee #1 was killed. He was determined to have sustained crushing injuries to his cervical and lumbar spine and a compound fracture of the left femur. | ||||||
