Summary Nr: 113918.015 Event: 01/17/2019Employee Amputates Finger While Running Conveyor Belt
At approximately 3:30 p.m. on January 17, 2019, an employee was on his lunch bre ak in the break room. The employee was performing his regular duties as an oven operator on the bread line and then went to lunch. The employee left the breakr oom during his lunch break and went to the conveyor I-015 where the maintenance mechanic had placed a tool cart. The coworker left the immediate area to get som e oil to lubricate a part on the conveyor. The employee took pliers from the cow orker's cart, removed a safety guard from conveyor I-015, and placed his right i ndex finger onto the running conveyor belt. The employee's finger was pulled in to the pulley and sustained an amputation of the right index fingertip, and the employee was not hospitalized.
