Accident Investigation Summary
Summary Nr: 108760.015Event: 08/22/2018Two Employees Are Electrocuted From Overhead Power Line, One
At 9:00 a.m. on August 22, 2018, Employee #1 was using an Ingersoll Rand commerc ial air compressor that was attached to the work truck and an airline with a met al 8 inch long nozzle to feed a woven tracer tape into underground conduit appro ximately 600 feet up the road to be connected to a fiber optic cable. Employee #2 was holding the tracer tape so that it would not tangle up as it was being fe d into the conduit. Both employees were electrocuted when the nozzle kicked bac k and the taper tape struck an overhead powerline. Employee #1 was killed; Empl oyee #2 suffered third degree burns and had his right hand amputated due to the severity of his burn.
