Summary Nr: 103793.015 Event: 09/14/2017Employee Clears Jam On Mesh Conveyor And Amputates Finger
At 3:25 p.m. on September 14, 2017, an employee was clearing Brussel sprouts fro m a wire mesh conveyor of a de-leafing machine while it was in operation. The e mployee reached into the machine with his right hand to clear three Brussel spro uts that were jammed in the machine at the wire mesh conveyor. When the employee released the jammed Brussel sprouts, the wire mesh conveyor began to move and p ulled his right hand toward a sharp edge inside the machine. The employee right middle finger was amputated; however, hospitalization was not required.
