Employee #1 works for the company as a carpenter. Employee #1 was cutting fire blocks with a portable power driven circular hand saw Employee #1 states the saw kicked out of a cut and struck his left thumb. Employee #1's thumb was not amputated, but he did sustain deep lacerations requiring hospitalization for more than 24 hours. The saw was new and the guard was in place and functioning properly.
