This small employer is a framing contractor. Employee #1 works for the company as a carpenter. Employee #1 was holding a 2 by 4 steady with his left hand as he attempted to cut a notch in it with a Skil saw. The saw blade bound up, causing the saw to kick back. The saw cut Employee #1's left thumb off when it kicked back. The saw was properly guarded. Employee #1 did not do a good job of securing his work before cutting on the 2 by 4. He was hospitalized.
