On August 15, 2011, employees of a highway construction contractor were installing a rumble strip on Hwy. 69 just north of I-40 and Hwy 266 in the city limits of Checotah, OK. One of the employees was driving a truck with an arrow board when suddenly a motorist struck the truck. As a result, the truck was pushed approximately 200 feet and struck another employee, who was on foot. The truck driver and the other employee were air-flighted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. The employee on foot died. The truck driver was expected to survive. The Checotah Police Department and Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to the accident.
