On August 23, 1990, Employee #1, a choker setter on a "Cat" side, noticed the choker cable hook around a knot on a cedar log as he began to move downhill and away from the turn. He signaled the skidder operator to start the turn breaking out. He stated he was 30 to 40 ft away when he was hit in the back of the neck and knocked out. According to the skidder operator, a dead limb on the cedar log about 3 1/2 ft long by 2 1/2 in. in diameter was caught by the main line and the limb was snapped off and thrown out as the cable was tightened. Employee #1 was hit as he was moving away. He was taken by ambulance to the intersection of the skyway and then flown by helicopter to Ehloe Hospital. He stayed for less than 24 hours for treatment for a lump on the back of the neck. He sustained no fractures, but will be off work for 3 to 4 weeks. | |||||||
