At approximately 5:10 a.m. on February 10, 1999, Employee #1 was unclogging synthetic fibers from a picker/roller when three fingers on her left hand were amputated. The machine had been deenergized, but it had not stopped completely before she reached in. Employee #1 was hospitalized for five days.
