At 7:30 a.m. on December 30, 2019, Employee #1, employed by a transport company, was working at a multiemployer construction site. He was working on a flatbed trailer and preparing bundles of steel reinforcing bars (rebar) for hoisting by a tower crane. As he rigged another bundle of rebar for hoisting, he stepped under the 5,500-pound bundle the crane was hoisting. The hoisted load fell and crushed Employee #1, who sustained catastrophic injuries and was killed.
