At approximately 9:30 a.m. on April 25, 2019, an employee was standing at the co nveyor control station and watching and straightening filled packages of cookies after they passed through a 90-degree curve in a slat conveyor before going thr ough a metal detector and labeler. Packages had to pass through the labeler in the proper orientation. The curved area of the conveyor caused them to misalig n at times. The employee reached with both gloved hands to straighten a package and her left little finger was caught in the space between two plastic slats on the conveyor and pulled into an opening between the end of the moving conveyor b elt and stainless steel guard plate, resulting in the amputation of the tip of t he finger. Surgery was performed but hospitalization was not required. | |||||||
