At 12:00 p.m. on November 12, 2019, an employee was operating a "T-Rex" log splitter. The log splitter is operated by hand levers, the operator has to hold down one of the levers for the hydraulic cylinder to move the ram forward which pushes the log into a wedge, and operate another lever to return the cylinder. The cylinder stops moving once the lever(s) is released. The employer reports that video surveillance showed the employee speaking with another worker while operating the log splitter. The operator's right hand was on the machine's controls while his left hand was resting where the ram retracts; the end of the operator's left small finger was pinched between the frame of the machine and where the cylinder retracted, resulting in amputation to the end of the finger.
