At 1:00 p.m. on February 5, 2018, an employee was cutting oak shims and wedges from scrap wood on a Craftsman Limited Edition 10 table saw, Model 137.218250, Serial Number RDS3343. The employee was wearing a Jersey style glove on the left hand while ripping the blocks in to wedges when his left thumb made contact with the circular saw blade that was rotating at approximately 5000 RPM. The employee amputated his thumb near the base of the nail and was admitted to the hospital.
