Nevada Revised Statute 618.375(1): Every employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees: (a) Dyn o-Flo: The Shop Helper was exposed to injuries resulting from being struck by fr agments of Schedule 40 Polyvinylchloride (PVC) pipe used to distribute compresse d air at a pressure of 120 psig. PVC pipe is not recommended for compressed gas distribution by the manufacturer because it is known to fail catastrophically. R eference: PVC manufacturer's data, caution, and warning notices, which state: "D o not use compressed air or gas for pressure testing","PVC and CPVC products are not recommended for use in compressed air or gas systems", and "The manufacture r does not recommend its PVC or CPVC products for use in compressed gas systems. PVC and CPVC pipe, fittings, and valves are excellent products for the transport of water and corrosive chemicals. But t here are a number of other piping products that are especially designed and suit ed for compressed air and gases." One feasible and acceptable method, among othe rs, would be to replace the PVC pipe with a pipe capable of withstanding compres sed air distribution.
